About the Author

Dap Dahlstrom is an American author and artist. A native of Wisconsin, her family traded brutal mid-west winters for the mild climate and natural wonders of Oregon, where she is now an avid hunter and fisherman. She is an expert marksman with a Master Hunter Certificate from the state of Oregon. Her favorite thing to do at 4 a.m. is get into a twenty-foot boat and catch salmon in the Pacific Ocean. She also practices Shorin Ryu karate and other martial arts.

Before becoming an author, she had a successful career as a copywriter and graphic designer. In her tenure at Gannett, the corporation that owns USA Today, she earned numerous national and international awards for copywriting and design.

In her spare time, (ha!) she plays with her two German Shepherds and translates for her husband, who now miraculously speaks a different language every day. Together they read several books a week.

Why I write

"My goal is to write the kinds of books I love to read:

  • Epic fantasy with a unique twist

  • Dark narratives balanced by humor and wit

  • Wildly creative world building and magical systems

  • Relatable, nuanced characters who are never perfect

  • Trope-free plots set in a world I’ve never visited before.

  • Stories that walk a tightrope between fantasy and science fiction

  • Clever, thought-provoking concepts

  • A physical book that I’m proud to have on my shelf because its design is as much a work of art as the story within
